Referred to as “Mata Nacional,” it is often tied to the crown, military or church; it often features unique plants and trees.
The Mata Nacional da Machada is a special one, located south of Lisbon. It used to be part of the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Luz da Ordem de Cristo, giving it a naturally calmer feel, even though the capital is so close by.
A large ceramic kiln dating back to the 15th century was also discovered, making this Mata even more historically relevant.
Certainly, great for a breather away from the city.
