However, general crime increased by 2.1%, the Minister of Internal Administration revealed, expressing concern about cities.
"According to the data we have, between January and November 2025, general crime increased by 2.1% compared to the previous year, with violent and serious crime decreasing by 2.6%. However, this data does not hide two reasons for concern that we must take into account," said Maria Lúcia Amaral in a sectoral debate in the plenary of the Assembly of the Republic with the Minister of Internal Administration.
Secondly, violent and serious crime is a cause for concern, which, although it does not increase, has "such a resonance in the collective consciousness that it should in itself deserve attention" and "the data relating to large metropolitan areas".
