Everyone who first visits the beautiful city of Lisbon admires the stunning yellow trams that sneak through the small streets of Alfama, Baixa and other districts. In the beautiful yellow, they contrast beautifully with the buildings and special sidewalks.
First installed in 1901, these trams are specifically designed to fit through the city’s tight alleyways. Still a major mode of transportation for locals and tourists. Their bells, as well as their aesthetic, are an essential part of the soundscape of the city.
Back in the 1920s, they were everywhere in the city, and their numbers have sadly decreased over time as cars and the metro took over as major modes of transportation.
Perhaps the most famous line remained - Line “28” is very well visited, especially during summer, as this line is famously beautiful and allows for spectacular views along the way.
They can be seen as an open museum, as both the interior and the exterior are reminiscent of the past.
Have you ever taken a ride with them?
