Exploring the old town of Lagos is a great way to spend one of those easy spring days. The town has a slightly artistic, alternative feel. You’ll notice a mix of surfers, digital nomads, backpackers, and artists, which gives it a different energy compared to other places in the Algarve.

In the old town, there are murals, small galleries, and independent shops that make it interesting to just walk around. For a relatively small place, there’s also a really good selection of cafés, brunch spots, and restaurants, along with a few more creative spaces.

Churches like Igreja de Santo António and Igreja de Santa Maria de Lagos are modest on the outside but often richly decorated inside, adding a quiet sense of history to the old town. Museums such as Museu de Lagos Dr José Formosinho and Mercado de Escravos are small but meaningful, offering insight into the town’s history.

Lagos still feels like an authentic Algarve town, yet it’s also very easy to explore, social, and welcoming to visitors.
