EGEAC - Lisboa Cultura released a statement outlining initiatives in the cultural spaces under its management, noting that the initiatives extend beyond municipal facilities.

Created in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), this year's International Museum Day has the theme "Museums uniting a divided world".

This will be the theme of the guided tour, on 16 May, of the Puppet Museum's long-term exhibition, "to discover stories that bring people together and reveal the power of art in creating dialogue", and, on 17 May, of a workshop where each participant can create their own puppet from simple materials.

The Lisbon Museum - Palácio Pimenta will once again host the “Baroque Ball” on 16 May, featuring dances led by a master from the Secrets des Roys ensemble, along with games, music, acrobatics, food, and drinks.

Also with free admission, but subject to registration, the Fado Museum will organise a guided tour of the exhibition “Variations for Carlos Paredes,” led by curator António Manuel Nunes, followed by a musical performance by Ricardo Parreira (on the Portuguese guitar) and João Filipe (on the viola).

Fado singer Aldina Duarte will take to the stage at Casa Fernando Pessoa for a special performance on 17 May, starting at 6 pm, a show that will feature Pedro Amendoeira (on the Portuguese guitar) and João Filipe (on the viola).

The Bordalo Pinheiro Museum will hold two special visits on Monday, the 18th: one by the curators of the permanent exhibition, Mariana Roquette Teixeira and Pedro Bebiano Braga, starting at 2:30 pm, and another, at 4 pm, by João Alpuim Botelho and Jorge Silva, about the exhibition “Toma! 150 years of Zés Povinhos”, a show that celebrates the 150th anniversary of the iconic character created by Bordalo Pinheiro.

Also, exceptionally open on a Monday (18), the Júlio Pomar Atelier-Museum will promote a visit to the building designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira and to the work of Júlio Pomar. On 16 May, there will be a workshop in the museum's courtyard to print cloth bags with the colours and shapes of Pomar's work.

At the Aljube Museum, visitors can visit the two temporary exhibitions free of charge: “They were afraid, and they went,” which addresses different expressions and moments of resistance to the dictatorship from the perspective of women's experiences, and “Before independence, it was a liberation struggle,” which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the independence of the former Portuguese colonies.

Entry to MUDE – the Museum of Design (municipal, but privately managed) will also be free for all visitors during the weekend, with guided tours, talks, and workshops for families dedicated to crochet, photography, screen printing, and storytelling.

A few days later, on 23 May, the European Night of Museums will be held at the Lisbon Museum-Roman Theatre, between 6 pm and midnight, with three visits.
