Swimming is discouraged at the beaches of Vila Praia de Âncora, Caminha, and Arda/Bico, Afife, Viana do Castelo, due to microbiological contamination, according to alerts from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA).

According to the Infoágua website, where the APA publishes information on water quality, both beaches have "high levels of intestinal enterococci and/or E. coli," bacteria that inhabit the human and animal intestinal tract.
Authorities advise against swimming.
Arda beach is located in the parish of Afife, in the municipality of Viana do Castelo, and has a blue flag this year.
Vila Praia de Âncora beach is located in the municipality of Caminha, in the district of Viana do Castelo.
