The works are expected to start in the fall, and are expected to be completed by the end of 2021, anticipates the autarchy chaired by independent Teresa Cardoso.

"The intervention will allow an unmistakable improvement in the working conditions of the GNR military, which promotes a public service and also contributes, in a very significant way, to the valorisation of facilities suitable for the performance of the police mission, with a view to ensuring security and tranquillity of residents", says the municipality.

The requalification takes place within the scope of the Interadministrative Cooperation Contract, signed on 19 February, in Anadia, between the municipality, the General Secretariat of Internal Administration and the National Republican Guard.

The "architectural specialty projects" of requalification and expansion of the building, which is a municipal property, were funded by the Câmara de Anadia, according to the functional programme established by GNR, in an amount exceeding twenty thousand Euros.

The building, which was once a penitentiary and later a kindergarten, shows signs of deterioration due to the passage of time and intensive use.

Between the works and the respective monitoring and inspection process, the Central Administration should invest just over one million Euros in the requalification of this Territorial Post.

The remodelling implies a reorganization of the entire interior space, with the objective of "creating greater functionality of services, both for the military and for the citizens, including for people with reduced mobility".

On the ground floor of the building, the services of the Territorial Post and the general services of the barracks will function, and the first floor will house the valences of the Territorial Detachment Command and the dormitory.

At the rear of the building, a new support space will be built, with garages, technical areas and storage rooms.
