According to João Lourenço, the warning, given to the Captaincy by the District Command of Relief Operations (CDOS) of Coimbra, pointed to the existence of a body in the cliffs of Buarcos - in the sand between Tamargueira beach and Cabo Mondego - that was visible during low tide.
With the tide rising and the body located on the rocks, but in an area where the waves broke, the rescue was carried out by sea, using two Maritime Police vessels, explained the commander of the Port of Figueira da Foz.
"It was a very complicated rescue due to the danger of the jet ski being able to go against the rocks and given that the body was almost on top of the surf [of the waves in the rocks].
But by land "it was also risky, with the tide rising", argued João Lourenço.
The rescue operation ended up lasting more than an hour, after the force of the sea took the body "a little further south": "An opening was made for the jet ski to enter and the body was removed," said João Lourenço.
The commander of the port of Figueira da Foz also said that, for now, "there is no further information" about the victim, and steps are being taken to identify him.
"Apparently, it is not someone who was missing, there was no one looking for [him]. In the first analysis, it could be someone who was walking around and felt bad or had an accident", added João Lourenço, indicating that the corpse "didn't look like it was in the water for a long time"
After the rescue, the body was transported to the National Institute of Legal Medicine of Coimbra.
