With three goals and three assists in just eight games, he is already the idol of Old Trafford. Such has been his impact that the 25 year-old midfielder has been crowned English Premier League ‘Player of the Month’ for February.
Fernandes made an energetic debut in the goalless draw with Wolves and a fortnight later he starred in an impressive 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The following week saw Fernandes notch his first goal for the club in the 3-0 win against Watford, where he scored a penalty just before the interval. He would then go on to set up Mason Greenwood to score the third goal. The Portugal international beat Marcos Alonso, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Matt Doherty to the award.
Bruno Fernandes has also paid tribute to Portugal team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, describing his national team captain as an ‘idol’.
‘When I was called up by Portugal, he came to me saying, “You are doing a good job at Sporting, I like it”. ‘Words like these make the difference,’ said Fernandes.
