The rise in confirmed cases in Portugal represents a 24.5% increase in 24 hours.

Of the confirmed cases 156 have been hospitalised, with 35 being treated in intensive care units.

The number of suspected cases in the country has risen to 9,854, up by 27% since yesterday (20 March).

The number of confirmed cases in the north stands at 644, in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo 448, 137 in the central region, 31 in the Algarve, 5 in Madeira, 3 in the Alentejo and 3 in the Azores.

In total there have now been 12 deaths and five recoveries of the coronavirus in Portugal.
