A strike by staff at Soflusa, whose ferries ply the route between Lisbon and Barreiro on the south bank of the River Tagus, ended on 10 July but will still continueto be disrupted on 11 and 12 July due to a lack of certain staff, the company said.

It expressed the hope that a planned meeting with unions would soon allow it to restore normal service.

According to Soflusa, links will remain restricted and "subject to confirmation" on 11 and 12 July, "due to lack of masters".

In comments to Lusa, the company’s secretary-general, Margarida Perez Perdigão, indicated that 100% of its masters had taken action during the three-day strike, affecting "the daily mobility of 32,000 people" who need to cross the river between Barreiro, in Setúbal district, and Terreiro do Paço boat station, in Lisbon.

On Thursday, company officials are to meet with the unions to discuss matters in dispute, including seniority payments.
