“The General Court cancels the decision because the European Commission was not able to prove, according to necessary juridical rules, that in fact any type of illegal benefits existed”, stated a press release.

At cause, is the fine of 13 billion Euros applied in 2016 by the European Commission, alleging that Ireland gave illegal fiscal benefits to Apple through taxes not paid.

Apple contested the decision that obligated the company to return such an amount to the Irish State, in a court case that dragged on in Luxembourg, and has now been supported by the EU General Court.
