For over an hour late on Sunday night, corporations from Tavira and Olhão fought the flames, which came close to spreading to nearby properties.
Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo Parish Mayor Carlos Sousa said: “The situation became very dicey because the fire was very intense and consuming everything.”
Fire-fighters arrived at the small warehouse on Rua dos Operários at around 11.30pm.
According to newspaper Correio da Manhã the owner, who lives near to Cortes Videiros, was not at the scene when the fire ignited.
The raging flames destroyed everything within the warehouse, including art, ceramic and glass objects, a fridge, a gas heater and a motorbike.
At one point an explosion caused concern among the fire-fighters, but turned out to be an extinguisher blowing up.
“Fortunately the wind was blowing north, which helped the work of fire-fighters and prevented the flames from spreading and reaching nearby houses.”
Fifteen fire-fighters and three engines from Tavira and Olhão were at the scene.
The fire was eventually brought under control at half past midnight and completely extinguished close to 2am.
There were no victims to report.
