In a notice to the population, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) indicates that “conditions favourable to the eventual occurrence and spread of rural fires” are expected, especially in the Central and Southern regions of the country, due to the weather forecast for the next 48 hours.

The ANEPC also recalls that the weather conditions are "conducive to the occurrence of the erratic behaviour of the fires, especially as of tonight".

According to ANEPC, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) foresees low humidity, moderate but sometimes strong wind, temperatures above 33 Celsium degrees, hot nights and conditions for thunderstorms.

In the warning to the population, the Civil Protection also highlights preventive measures, such as the prohibition of unauthorized burning, the use of stoves and grills in all rural areas, smoking or making any kind of fire in these places, launching rockets and the use of fireworks are only allowed with authorisation from the city council.
