During a coastal surveillance action, the Thermal Vision Vehicle (TVV) maritime surveillance team detected a suspicious vessel in the Aegean Sea approaching land in the eastern part of the island. Through the thermal vision equipment, it was possible to verify that they were two rubber boats.

The first vessel detected was near the coast, and was intercepted by the GNR vessel, which ensured its safe navigation to Samos Marina. On board of this about 6 metre rubber boat, were 30 migrants, including 9 children, 6 women and 15 men

.

The second vessel, also spotted by the TVV team, was immediately intercepted by the GNR vessel, which rescued the migrants. This second vessel, about 10 meters long, had difficulty navigating and was towed to Marina de Samos, with 30 migrants on board, including 3 children, 7 women and 20 men.

GNR, in this FRONTEX mission, develops actions at land and sea borders to prevent, detect and prosecute illicit acts related to illegal immigration, human trafficking and other cross-border crimes, fundamentally contributing to the safeguarding of human lives.

In 2019 alone, GNR has carried out 777 patrols, which corresponds to over 5,000 hours of commitment, covered 66,000 kilometres and made 5,000 nautical miles, having detected 217 vessels and aided 2,088 migrants.
