The shotgun start pairs better ball achieved a full entry with each of the 18 tees taken and doubled up where possible, with in excess of 80 competitors from a number of local clubs, and even some who flew across especially to support the event.

There were a number of prizes, many donated by local businesses and individuals, to include nearest the pin prizes at all par three holes for both ladies and men, longest drive on the 18th hole and prizes for the best Stableford pairs to 10th place. In fact every competitor received a prize.

The best score of the day was a creditable 46 points by Peter McDonagh and John Deardon, who very generously allowed the golf bags they won to be auctioned off.

After the prize-giving in excess of 100 competitors and guests sat down to a 3-course buffet and wine followed by a raffle which helped raise even more for the charity.

Event organisers David and Margaret Haddon were thrilled at such a fabulous entry. In all, the day raised in excess of €2,000 for RDA which is a voluntary, non-profit making organisation dedicated to making a real and lasting difference to the lives of disabled people, enabling them to ride in order to improve their health and well-being and to achieve new goals.

Golf Director Brian Noble added: “The turn out for the day, was incredible, it has been a while since Golf Santo Antonio held such an event, and it was on all accounts enjoyed by all. The golf course is in the best condition it has been for a number of years, which has been well documented locally recently and of course there were many who wanted to make a contribution to the charity, all adding to a memorable day”.

The next event at Golf Santo Antonio is the Autumn Festival 25 – 30 September. Entry forms are available from Golf Reception: golf.reservations@saresorts.com | Tel: 282 690 054.
