According to Tourism Secretary Ana Mendes Godinho, data for the first 10 months of last year showed a diversification of tourism as it spread geographically beyond its traditional strongholds. Figures were also boosted by the papal visit to Fátima, with the area welcoming more than eight million visitors last year. Overall, revenue from tourism is expected to have increased by around 20 percent in 2017.
