The second Bifanas de Vendas Novas fair is being held in the Parque de Ferias e Mercados in Vendas Novas and will include the participation of eight of the most well known bifana establishments.

The first edition of the event held last year surpassed all expectations and now the local council have built upon this success to expand the event in what is often referred to as the “Capital of Bifanas”.

Already Vendas Novas is visited by many people looking to sample the famous pork sandwich with Luís Dias from the local council stating that growth in the sales of bifanas continues to grow with around 3,400 bifanas being sold daily in 2017.

“Bifanas are not just a fad, they are a product with a long and rich history linked to our country thanks to it being a place that many travellers pass through”, said Luís Dias.

As well as the main fair, the event will also include and entertainment programme, traditional Alentejo singers, dances and the much anticipated “King of Bifanas” competition which will crown the person who can eat the most bifanas.

Bifanas have been part of the Vendas Novas culture for the past 30 years. With travellers stopping along their route to pick up the sandwiches known for their secret sauce, tender beaten pork steak and fresh bread. Bifanas are sold almost everywhere in Vendas Novas, however the heart of the bifana culture can be found in Boavista where you can take your pick from the most famous establishments in the area.

Bifanas de Vendas Novas has been a registered trademark since 2011.
