“The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to performers who have made contributions of outstanding artistic significance to Latin music,” the academy states on its website.
José Cid is to receive his Latin Grammy at a ceremony in Las Vegas, US, on 13 November. The academy describes the annual prize ceremony as “the biggest night in Latin music”.
This year’s other winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award are Eva Ayllón, Joan Baez, Lupita D’Alessio, Hugo Fattoruso, Pimpinela, Omara Portuondo, and José Luis Rodríguez "El Puma," while Mario Kaminsky is to receive the Trustees Award – given “to individuals who have made significant contributions, other than performance, to music during their careers,” according to the academy.
The academy's Board of Trustees is the body that votes on both distinctions, it added.
