Loulé’s libraries take to the streets

“Libraries Outdoors” is an activity organised by Loulé’s Library Network (RBCL), which will take place on October 9 on Rua Vasco da Gama in Quarteira to mark the International Month of School Libraries (MIBE).

The event will run from 10am to 3pm, involving 300 students in a range of book-related and reading activities: there will be a creative writing studio, a puppet theater, a sock puppet workshop, "Book-Eaters”, inclusive storytelling, stories from around the world, a construction workshop, a mobile library and an exchange of used books. These activities will be developed by students, teachers and librarians.

This first edition of “Libraries Outdoors” will be for 4º ano and Year 5 students from Vilamoura and Quarteira primary schools, but the long-term goal is to include all students from areas in which RBCL libraries are located.

Other aims of this project are to promote activities that, through reading, encourage different forms of expression, involve students and other readers, and foster partnerships between different organisations. It is supported by the School Library Network (RBE), Quarteira Council and Loulé Council.

Loulé’s Library Network is made up of representatives from Loulé Municipal Library, the RBE school libraries, CIV’s library, and libraries from the Escola Profissional Cândido Guerreiro, the Fundação Manuel Viegas Guerreiro and the Museu Municipal.
