Reports on Monday morning said Fábio Santos, 35, died on Saturday evening two days after attempting to kill the mother of his child and turning the gun on himself.
Both initially survived the shooting, the30-year-old woman remains in intensive care in Faro hospital.
They had separated three months earlier and have a five year old daughter.
