Several villages have been evacuated, with the Pestana Hotel at the International Race Circuit in Portimão also being evacuated as a precautionary safety measures with flames from the blaze in relative close proximity.

The blaze flared up again Wednesday evening and is active on several fronts.


There are currently several hundred firemen and woman tackling the flames, which are encroaching on several municipalities in the region.


Surfaces in the neighbouring municipalites of Portimão and Lagoa are covered in ash, carried on by a strong northern wind from the mountain town, along with a strong smell of smoke and eucalyptus.
