The information was given to the Lusa agency by an official source of medical association following a report in the newspaper Correio da Manhã, which says that on 7 October a baby without eyes, nose and part of the skull was born in the São Bernardo Hospital, after the mother had performed ultrasound exams with an obstetrician who was accompanying her pregnancy in a private clinic in Setúbal.

According to the medical association, the doctor in question has four cases under investigation in the association’s southern disciplinary council.

According to Correio da Manhã, the baby's parents did three ultrasounds with the doctor in question, without any malformation being reported to them.

Only in an examination done in another clinic, a 5D ultrasound, were the parents warned of the possibility of malformations. They questioned the doctor who was accompanying the pregnancy, who assured them that everything was fine, the newspaper said, citing the baby's godmother.

The complications were only detected after the birth and the parents filed a complaint with the Public Ministry against the doctor. Meanwhile, Correio da Manhã reports that the São Bernardo Hospital has begun to investigate the case.
