Going onto its fourth year, the war that brought a nation to its knees is having repercussions that are well beyond those of international politics, affecting real people on the ground.

According to a recent study by the World Food Programme, as reported by the United Nations, there are nearly ten million people ‘one step away from famine’ in Yemen.

To put this into perspective, Portugal has a population of little over ten million people. In other words, if there ever was to be a humanitarian crisis in Portugal at a similar scale to that of Yemen’s, there would be a very real possibility that the Portuguese people would cease to exist.
