During the operation, which started last Thursday, the GNR registered 974 accidents, which caused six deaths, and 19 serious injuries.
The operation lasted 24 hours longer than last year, when the GNR registered 708 accidents and four deaths.
Meanwhile PSP police also registered over 300 accidents, six serious injuries and 91 walking-wounded during their Easter road safety campaign, which ran for the same time frame as the GNR’s.
In related news, figures revealed this week by the national road safety authority ANSR showed over 100 people have died on Portugal’s roads during the first three months of this year.
In total, 115 fatalities have been registered on the roads, which is up 15 on the same period of last year.
