Portugal to implement checks on 5G suppliers

The Portuguese government will adopt a law requiring telecommunication equipment suppliers to prove they are safe, thus creating the necessary instruments to implement potential bans on risky suppliers.

The Minister of the Presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva, said all potential suppliers will be subject to certification and evaluation processes. Her comments follow recent threats from the US that Portugal could face repercussions if it does not take action against Chinese companies like Huawei. US ambassador to Portugal George Glass said earlier that Portugal “has to choose between its allies and the Chinese.”

If you read the article with sober glasses, you will realise it's only written to support Huawei. No self respecting country will let 5G infrastructure be at risk of Chinese control. 5G is totally different from previous technologies in that all new automatisation gadgetry will be built on top of it.

There is a reason why the US sacrificed so much to ban Huawei completely from their grounds. This is no joke

USA should butt out! How dare they! Sort your own sinking, starving, homeless country before you dictate.
