"The state of emergency will cease to be in force after this second renewal on the 2nd at midnight. It is hoped that it will not be necessary in the future to resort to the state of emergency again. If necessary, this will be considered," said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
According to the head of state, who was speaking to journalists at Infarmed in Lisbon, Portugal will now enter a "third phase" of combating the spread of covid-19, which "remains in control of the situation", but with "a recovery or an opening - any of the terms may apply - with small steps".

With due respect to President´s announcement, I would like to still voice my opinion that Portugal should have waited for at least 15 days more.

I do believe that Portugal should have extended the emergency for another 15 days. The curve has not flattened convincingly enough to relax the containment. I also endorse respected PM´s opinion that we cannot add "crisis to crisis".....but Portugal could have been a bit more patient.
Thank you
Well wisher

I've been praying hard to see Portugal back to life again. It has been hard. This memory will never fade away but the willing to live, is even more stronger than ever. What's next, is to find a job and get my "engine" moving. God blesses you always Portugal.

there was no lockdown in Portugal...that's why the number of patients is increasing rapidly. If emergency open then it will be more danger..

Portugal response is greatly exaggerated and cause great harm to the society and economy. Better to use the Sweden strategy and let the society remain open. Here’s a link to Sweden professor of medical epidemiology Giesecke: https://youtu.be/bfN2JWifLCY
