“National associations or leagues must be in a position to communicate to UEFA on 25 May 2020 the plan for restarting internal competitions, including the restart date and the competitive model,” reads Aleksander Ceferin's message, sent to 55 associates.

With the exception of Belarus, all national football competitions have been suspended since March, including the two Portuguese professional championships, which were interrupted after the 24th round.

In the same letter, Ceferin determined that this will also be the date for the indication of the teams qualified for the European competitions of 2020/21 in case of cancellation of the events.

“In the event that internal competition is prematurely concluded for legitimate reasons, UEFA will require, until 25 May 2020, the special circumstances that justify this premature end and choose clubs for UEFA club competitions, based on sporting merit in the 2019/20 national competitions”, explained the manager.

UEFA has postponed Euro2020 to 2021 with a view to concluding national competitions, having expressed its willingness to complete the current editions of the Champions League and Europa League, both of which were interrupted in the round of 16.

Germany, Italy and England are among the countries that intend to conclude the competitions, contrary to what happened in the Netherlands, where, on Friday, 24 April, the end of the championship was decided, without attribution of the national title, nor ascents or descents.
