Ronaldo wants to be the best

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his desire to overtake the Iranian Ali Daei and become the best ever scorer of a national team, a goal that the Portuguese striker says he will achieve.

"It is a unique sensation to score 100 goals. It's a historic mark. Now the desire, as we're getting closer, is to break the world record and become the best scorer ever. It's a goal I'll achieve. It's a pride to play for Portugal and every time I play like I'm doing it for the first time," Cristiano Ronaldo said.

The 35-year-old's words were publicised on the social networks of the Portuguese Football Federation, in a video in which the captain of the national team receives a pair of football boots commemorating the 100 goals scored by Portugal.

Ronaldo has scored 101 goals with the team and is eight short of matching the Iranian Ali Daei, who scored 109 between 1993 and 2006, the period in which he represented his country.
