The Portuguese surfer secured victory in the final round of the European Tour of Longboard, a competition organised by the European Surfing Federation (ESF), which has been taking place since Friday at Guincho Beach.
António Dantas secured the title after a decisive performance in the semi-finals, where he beat Frenchman Kito Guessard with a combined score of 11.25 points, a result that allowed him to consolidate his lead in the European rankings and mathematically win this year's European Tour.
The president of the Portuguese Surfing Federation, Gonçalo Saldanha, said that these achievements are "important for motivating more surfers", emphasising that this "makes it easier to motivate athletes to join the tribe".
The national longboard coach and António Dantas' coach, João Ferreira, said that this victory ‘is the culmination of ten years' work together and work that has been going on for more than two decades’.
Portugal once again hosted a round of the European longboard circuit more than 12 years later, marking the country's return to the sport's main competitive scene.
