This comes after it emerged that the Public Prosecutor’s Office had yesterday recommended that Sócrates remain in the confines of his own home and be fitted with an electronic tag.
However, the former prime minister has declined the suggestion on the basis that he believes it is merely a result of prosecutors trying to cover up mistakes in placing him under arrest in the first place.
A ruling on the matter is expected later today, in which a Judge could also rule Sócrates be released without restrictions pending trial.
