‘Summer’ in Madeira

Funchal in Madeira has recorded the warmest day in 154 years after the Mercury rose to 26.9 degrees Celsius last Thursday.

The day had already started with summer-like weather, with overnight lows not falling to below 22 degrees.

The average highs in Funchal for this time of the year are usually around 20 degrees.

Mainland Portugal has also enjoyed relatively mild weather, with temperatures in the Algarve climbing to 23 degrees Celsius.
