It is mostly pensioners that benefit from this new regime. They are escaping the cold and dark winters up north to spend the winter months in a more pleasant environment.
Fastighetsbyrån, Sweden´s largest real estate agency has recently opened an office in the Algarve to meet the
increased demand. “We have a lot
of requests for apartments and smaller villas of a high standard in good
locations,” says Fastighetsbyråns Franchisee Christer Hellman.
“It is active couples between 55-65 years of age that want an outdoor way of life. In the evening they want to come home to a warm and cosy home like they are used to in Sweden,” says Christer Hellman
Christer Hellman and his team have their office at Rua da Extrema in the historical part of Lagos. They all have of experience of living in Portugal and speak Swedish, English and Portuguese.
Fastighetsbyrån have offices in more then 250 locations in Sweden and 10 in Spain. The office in Lagos is the first in Portugal but the company is planning to expand to Lisbon later this year.
