One of the victims was in a truck that lost control and rolled over onto a van.

The other two victims were in the van and all three were trapped inside their vehicles.

The Aveiro rescue service said the accident cut the northbound carriageway of the A1 for several hours and also affected the southbound traffic.

The police said the accident happened after the truck hit two light vehicles
