José Rodrigues quickly apologised for the mistake to highly respected Socialist MP Alexandre Quintanilha.
The broadcaster said last Thursday there had been a misfortunate and unintentional mix-up in a piece, which said the oldest MP in the recent elections was a “woman”.
“The misunderstanding arose as the piece referred to a woman elected by the Left Bloc, a 68-year-old woman, and the anchorman thought he was speaking about the same person”, RTP said.
“We do try to avoid them, but mistakes happen every so often”, RTP added.
Meanwhile, José Rodrigues dos Santos apologised on his news show on 8 October to both MPs involved.
