Authorities seizing masks

The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) seized this year more than 1.3 million masks for non-compliance with the rules.

"ASAE has so far seized more than 1,330,000 masks," according to a statement sent to the Lusa agency, taking into account the actions taken by inspectors during this.

The main reasons for seizing masks were the improper CE marking (which indicates that a product complies with Community directives), the lack of essential health and safety requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) and the non-compliance with the requirements for being considered “social” masks.

In addition to non-compliance with requirements in terms of PPE and social masks, it was up to ASAE to also control the possible price speculation of goods essential to the prevention of covid-19, such as alcohol, alcohol-gel and disinfectants.
