The Alenquer Town Hall will give funds from the Christmas programme, cancelled due to the pandemic, to help families and traditional businesses, despite maintaining some decorations and Christmas lights said the vice president of the municipality.

“We had planned a budget of between €150,000 and €200 thousand [to fund the programme Alenquer, Nativity Scene de Portugal] and we decided to spend it instead on social projects”, said Rui Costa to the Lusa agency.

From the allocated budget, €50,000 will be given to reinforce the food aid programme in December, covering not only 200 more citizens, in addition to the thousand already supported, but also reinforcing aid to each family “at 200 percent”.
As in previous years, the municipality will distribute Christmas meals to needy families, but instead of being made by the municipality, they will be supplied by the municipality’s restaurants.
