Praia da Galé-Fontaínhas is located in Grândola, just under Lisbon.

This enormous beach is surrounded by sandstone cliffs that can reach a height of more than 50 metres and show evidence of fossils dating back nearly 5 million years. Along the 2.2 kilometre long stretch of sand it is quite easy to find a spot that is not very crowded and also for swimmers and surfers there will always be space. But be careful when you go into the water here, the currents are strong and inexperienced swimmers will often find themselves in deep waters very quickly.

Throughout thebathing season the beach is supervised by lifeguards and it was even awarded the Gold Quality Beach Award for its environmental conditions.

The access to this beach is through the Galé Camping Park and parking can be quite a walk away from the beach. Nevertheless if you are in the area and have some free time, it is definitely worth a visit.
