The Porto Social Summit kicks off today in Porto, with the attendance of 24 of the 27 heads of state and EU government officials.

The meeting aims to define Europe's social agenda for the next decade. Two heads of government – Germany’s Angela Merkel and the Netherlands’ Mark Rutte - cancelled the trip to Portugal due to the pandemic situation in their own countries, along a third, Malta’s Robert Abela, who is in quarantine. The presidents of the European Parliament, European Council, and the European Commission, among others, will also be in Porto for the day-long event.
