The transmissibility index (Rt) of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus in Portugal rose on 19 May to 1.02, while the incidence of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days rose to 51.4.

The previous figures for these indicators, released on Monday, 17 May, indicated an Rt of 1 and an incidence of 50.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

In the joint epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health and the National Institute of Health Dr Ricardo Jorge (INSA) released today, the figures for mainland Portugal only show that the Rt rose from 0.99 to 1.01, with an increase from 47.5 to 48.3 in relation to the average number of new cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

These indicators - the transmissibility index of the virus and the incidence rate of new cases of Covid-19 - are the two criteria defined by the Government to evaluate the easing of lockdown process that began on 15 March.
