These are the first cases of local infection detected in Wuhan in over a year. The city diagnosed the first cases of Covid-19 in the world in late 2019. Wuhan partially confined the Zhuankou neighborhood, now considered "medium risk", according to a circular issued today by the local health commission.

The high contagion capacity of the Delta variant has put to the test the strict prevention measures taken by the Chinese authorities to contain the disease, although local experts have expressed that the vaccination rate and the accumulated experience will prevent a large-scale outbreak in the country.

China announced today that it had identified 90 new cases of Covid-19, 61 of which were locally contagious, mostly in eastern Jiangsu province.
Jiangsu has recorded 45 infections, part of an outbreak initially detected in the provincial capital, Nanjing, and which later spread to other parts of China. The remaining local cases were distributed among the municipalities of Beijing (one) and Shanghai (one) and the provinces of Hunan (six), Hubei (three), Henan (two), Yunnan (two) and Fujian (one), indicated the China Health Commission.

Beijing has placed two neighborhoods under quarantine and has restricted entry into the city of people from areas considered at risk. Cities like Nanjing and Zhengzhou are also conducting nucleic acid tests on all of their inhabitants. The city of Yangzhou, Jiangsu, today announced blockades at all residential complexes located in urban areas, following confirmation of
94 cases in recent days. The total number of active infected in mainland China is 1,157, of which 24 are in serious condition, according to data made available by the National Health Commission.
