“Predominantly very old people, aged 80 and over, are dying. The usual profile is to have a very high burden of disease. They have various diseases”, said Graça Freitas to journalists, at a press conference held at the headquarters of Infarmed (National Authority for Medicines and Health Products).

The director-general of Health also stated that most people who are dying are vaccinated against Covid-19, since the population in this age group is practically all vaccinated.

Graça Freitas noted that there are also unvaccinated people among the deaths.

“Countries that vaccinated very little in Europe have mortality incomparably higher than in Portugal. Despite everything, if Portugal maintains these numbers, it is because its population has been vaccinated”, she said.
