The number of new cases is the lowest since December 27, 2021, also a Monday, when 6,334 positive cases were recorded.

According to the daily epidemiological bulletin, 2,364 people are hospitalised today, 66 more than on Sunday, while in intensive care units there are seven fewer patients, out of a total of 148, and not all hospitalisations are due to Covid-19.

The number of active cases decreased today, with 548,867 now, 20,861 less than on Sunday, and in the last 24 hours, 29,289 people were reported to have recovered, bringing the total to 2,524,291.

Of the 35 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours - the lowest number in the last 16 days - 16 occurred in the North, 11 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, four in the Centre, two in the Alentejo and two in the Algarve, with the DGS not registering any death in the Azores and Madeira.

The North was once again the region of the country with the most new daily cases, with 2,764 more infections, followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 2,529 more, the Centre (1,333), the Algarve (680), Madeira (474), the Azores (370) and the Alentejo (313).

In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance recorded a reduction of 13,194 people, now totalling 589,289.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has recorded 1,098,923 cases and 8,579 deaths.

In the North region, there were 1,187,897 infections and 6,280 deaths and the Central region now has an accumulated total of 456,700 infections and 3,643 deaths.

The Algarve has a total of 123,399 infections and 663 deaths and Alentejo has 107,224 cases and 1,148 deaths from covid-19.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira has recorded 71,518 infections and 176 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic and the Azores archipelago 48,062 cases and 76 deaths.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.

Since March 2020, 10,819 men and 9,746 women have died from Covid-19.
