In a report by ECO, the National Association of Canned Fish Industries (ANIP) indicates that the price increases of canned foods “will only happen in the month of April”, since part of the industry still has a stock of sunflower oil. However, the association warns that there will “certainly” be more increases throughout the year, following the increase in the cost of raw materials and of transport.

The canning industry is usually a sector that benefits from a war. However, Russia's war against Ukraine is negatively affecting this sector, as the country led by Volodymyr Zelensky is the largest producer of sunflower oil and, together with Russia, represents “more than 50% of world production.” In Portugal alone, “the weight of sunflower oil in the canned foods that are produced is 40 to 50%”, notes ANCP.
