15 countries were ranked as having a “Very high” state of peace, with Iceland coming out on top for the 3rd year in a row. Following the Nordic country are New Zealand in 2nd, whose position hasn’t changed since last year, and Ireland in 3rd, who’s risen three places since 2021, passing Denmark in 4th, Portugal in 6th, who also got overtaken by Austria who now finds itself in 5th, and Slovenia, who dropped three places to 7th. The top 10 is completed by the Czech Republic, Singapore and Japan.

Ireland’s high placement was mainly helped by the following indicators: Homicides, violent demonstrations, political terror, military expenditure, UN peacekeeping funding, nuclear and heavy weapons, and militarisation, attaining very low scores in all areas.
