In the euro area, the unemployment rate in April (6.5%) retreated from 6.7% in the same month of 2022 and 6.6% when compared to March.

In the EU, according to data from the European Statistical Office, unemployment declined year-on-year (6.1% in April 2022) and remained stable at 6.0% year-on-year.

In April, an estimated 13,028 million people were unemployed in the EU.

Among the Member States, Spain (12.7%), Greece (11.2%) and Italy (7.8%) had, in April, the highest unemployment rates and Poland, Czech Republic (2 .7% each) and Malta (2.8%) the smallest.
