Authorities have concluded, after an investigation into the matter, that the cause of the greening of the Venice Grand Canal is actually fluorescein, a fluorescent substance often used to test wastewater networks.

No toxic substances have been identified in the water samples taken, although there’s no public knowledge of where this fluorescein came from.
