According to the company: “This initiative follows on from a recent global pilot project of this technology, which saw a reduction in party complaints”.

“Through this new technology to identify possible reservations with potential risk, the objective is to prevent - and, ultimately, prevent - the holding of unauthorised parties in accommodation. The technology analyses factors related to the guest's account and reservation that may indicate a higher risk for this type of incident. These factors include things like guest ratings, length of trip, distance to listing, and whether the booking is on a weekend or weekday, among other considerations”.

The rollout of this technology in Portugal follows the party ban that was introduced last year.

The company reports that since Airbnb implemented anti-party measures in August 2020, there has been a 55% global drop in party reports on the platform in two years. Through measures such as booking tracking, Airbnb hopes to continue to build on this success.

Mónica Casañas, General Manager of Airbnb Marketing Services, SL, says: "We want to help hosts and we take measures to curb bad actors and unwanted behaviour on Airbnb. As the summer season approaches and more guests arrive, this new technology will help address some of the local concerns."
