If enacted, the revisions would add more Cork, Carlow, Westport, Portlaoise, Mallow, and Drogheda services starting on December 10.

Additionally, the operator is considering adding extra stops to select services at Clara and Ballinasloe as well as other locations along the Dublin to Cork line.

One of the more prominent new services being considered is an extra train from Dublin to Cork that would run Monday through Friday, departing from Heuston at 6 am and arriving at Kent Station at 8:32 am.

If put into practice, Irish Rail claims it would be the first time travellers from Dublin could reach in the capital before 9am.

Additionally, two additional peak-hour morning trips between Cork and Mallow are being suggested.

Leinster would add an additional 12.20 p.m. train from Heuston to Carlow and a 3.15 p.m. service going the other way, both running Monday through Friday.

In order to connect Ballina with a new daily route running from Westport to Athlone, a connection to and from Ballina is being proposed for Connacht.

There will be a "significant expansion" of 15 new routes on the Dublin-Portlaoise line, which would also help people going to and from Kildare.

On a Monday through Friday basis, there are also three additional routes from Dublin to Drogheda and two from the Co. Louth town back to Dublin that are being examined.


The operator predicted improvements in travel times for many of the Dublin to Cork and Dublin to Limerick services as a result of recent construction.

It also stated that local Heuston and Phoenix Park tunnel services will run to the new Kishoge Station beginning in 2024.

In order to "improve performance," the DART is also anticipated to undergo "significant" adjustments on Saturdays and Sundays. According to Irish Rail, this will reduce wait times for other routes that travel to and from Connolly Station.

A public comment period is open till September 27.
