The group of tourists were made up of five French, five Germans, one American and two Swiss, who "were rescued safely".

Pedro Ramos, general secretary of Health and Civil Protection of Madeira, stated that "400 people are without electricity due to the damage" caused by the fire. The flames affected "18 kilometers of network" in Calheta and "5 kilometers in Porto Moniz", said Pedro Ramos.

Regarding the situation, Pedro Ramos said that by the end of Thursday, 57 people had been assisted, in most cases due to smoke inhalation. There are also several people who were removed from their homes.

Pedro Ramos also spoke about the arrest made by the Judiciary Police and confirmed that the detainee was "the author of the fire in Calheta".
